When we’re not busy styling closets, transcribing interviews, and opining about our favorite new designers, we fill our calendars with appointments to see all the fashion and wellness finds that are hitting the market in the months to come. These previews are usually fleeting—a few minutes to breeze through a single collection before jetting back to the office. Cabana Show, which we just returned from in Miami, is not that kind of preview.
Helmed by Janet Wong, Sharifa Murdock, and Sam Ben-Avraham, Cabana brings together an exciting mix of established and emerging brands all showcasing their latest offerings. It’s where your favorite boutiques find the best resortwear to carry; where buyers from the likes of Shopbop and Matches Fashion identify upcoming trends; and where editors and influencers pore over elevated swimwear, luxury accessories, and racks on racks of ready-to-wear pieces.
We spent two days wandering around this veritable fashion-and-lifestyle wonderland, which also housed a curated assortment of activations. Among them a Glamsquad braid bar (complete with Verandah scarves weaved into styles), an embroidery station courtesy of Artesano (we'll be cooling ourselves off with our new monogrammed fans all summer long), and a Reina Olga tie-dye bikini station, where we discovered an untapped talent for swimsuit design.
After having tkees sandals emblazoned with our initials and picking up screen printed T-Shirts from Upcycle, we sipped from rum-filled coconuts and noshed on tacos and Cuban sandwiches. In a push toward sustainability, attendees were gifted Corkcicle water bottles in lieu of plastic, and food was served on palm leaf plates with utensils made from corn.
