This is surprising news... that really wasn't too surprising at all. For her follow-up project to the critically-dividing ARTPOP, singer-songwriter and pop provocateur Lady Gaga has teamed up with legendary jazz crooner Tony Bennett for a new duet album entitled Cheek To Cheek. With an announcement made on The Today Show, the two superstars revealed their collaborative effort will hit shelves on September 23, just before the GRAMMY consideration deadline. *winkwink
For the album's lead single, the two artists have released "Anything Goes", a short, two-minute rendition of a 1934 jazz staple. Though the pairing of the two music legends may appear confusing at first glance, hearing them trade verses proves there is real chemistry underneath their larger than life personalities. The new music may not impress Gaga's devoted pop followers, but it continues to show her talent and determination.
"And though I'm not a great romancer, I know that you're bound to answer when we propose, anything goes," Gaga and Bennett sing on the conservative, adorable, tongue-in-cheek offering about how the world has definitely changed. It is clear that anything goes when artists such as Gaga and Bennett pair up and release an impressive, honest track which steers clear of the pop genre.
Along with the official announcement of "Anything Goes", the artists also released a music video to accompany their gorgeous vocal performances on the intriguing number. Featuring scenes of the two recording the track in the studio, along with a record number of costume changes from Gaga, the visual highlights the pairings' apparent love and adoration for each other. It comes off as a cute and personal video that will just bring a smile to anyone's face.
Cheek To Cheek is set to feature iconic tracks including "Sophisticated Lady", "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)", as well as the possible inclusion of an original Gaga song titled "Paradise". Will you be buying the album in September?
