James' long awaited day

Today is James Birthday. He is seven! He has been patiently counting the sleeps until his Birthday. 364 days .... 363 days .... 362 days .... and finally, the day is here.

James asked for lots of things, as little boys do, but mostly, he was hoping for a bike. We found a blue second hand bike for him and Richard cleaned it up and serviced it.

Because we didn't need to buy a brand new bike we could get him lots of other small bits and bobs: a bike bell, a phlat ball, a skipping rope, a football and a box full of loom bands. He also asked for a "cool" back pack, which my mum got him. Isn't it great? She also got him a Super Mario beach towel, which he loves.

For his Birthday breakfast, we had waffles with maple syrup and/or chocolate spread (leftover from the cake icing). For lunch, we went to MacDonalds. For dinner we are having chicken curry. And after dinner we are starting our long trip down to Cornwall.

The cake is Annie's own work. At James request, she tried to recreate a cake that my mum had made last year, a Viking boat. She planned it, helped with the shopping, baked the cake and assembled the boat. Isn't it just amazing? I am ever so proud of my practical young lady.

For me, it is a special day, too. James celebrates his third Birthday with us. This means that he has lived with us for longer than with anyone else. Here's to many more Birthday celebrations!

We are away for the next two weeks. Because I am overflowing with stuff I want to share, I have dabbled with the scheduling function in Blogger. I hope it works. I won't be accessing my computer much I don't think. I have packed three books instead, and two knitting projects (I am ever so optimistic). I'll catch up with my favourite blogs when I get back.

Have a lovely two weeks!
